Ceramic Tone Tubby (Club Deluxe)

Postby russell » Wed Oct 14, 2009 3:08 pm

Curious if anyone has tried a Tone Tubby with their Club and what they thought of it.
Mine came with a Jensen which I like, but ended up putting it my extension cab - replaced with a V30.

I just bought a T.T. for my 50 watt Saint Louis Music (read:CRATE) amp - it's a decent amp, but the highs cut like a knife.
I'm tempted to try it in the Deluxe, but wanted to know if if anyone had any experience?

FWIW, I have a Eminence Cannabis Rex in my 1x12 Super Deluxe, and think it really complements that amp's voice. I believe Eminence licenses the hemp cone technology from Tone Tubby.

I previously had the speaker in a very bright old Gretsch(Valco) amp, and it tamed the highs beautifully.

Thanks for the feedback.
In a crunch for time last weekend (playing an outdoor Halloween party) that I needed more power for -so I loaded the speaker in the SLM amp - very satisfied. The Hemp speakers really do have nice creamy low end to them.

I really didn't have an issue with my Club being to bright, so I figured I'd rather use the speaker for the amp that needed it.
Perhaps when I have more time I swap it in, but for now - it's all good. It's good to hear you think it compliments the Super - that bodes well for the future, but wonder if the 18-20 Watt Deluxe would be as responsive as opposed to the 33 Watt SD?
Don't know - just askin'

The amp I originally had the CRex in is a '59 Gretsch 6161 (2x6973 power tubes, 14 watts). It was painfully bright at all tone settings, owing mainly to an ancient Rola speaker that had been installed at some point. Gave the Rola to a friend to brighten up one of his darker voiced amps, and he is thrilled with it.

Although the CRex sounded great in the Gretsch, I felt it lacked responsiveness due to a 14 watt amp pushing a 50 watt speaker. In the Super Club it really came to life.
