I have a '97 script logo Club Deluxe. The tube chart specifies a GZ34 rectifier tube, but I thought this had previously been discussed and it was agreed that a 5Y3 would work as well, even if not specified on the tube chart. I bought a ANOS Tung Sol 5Y3 off TGP. I popped it in my CD and liked the results, it did just as you would expect-lower headroom, softer breakup and feel. I did notice, in switching back and forth with the GZ34 to compare, that it did seem to get very hot, very quick. Appearance wise it looked normal when operating.
I used it off and on for a couple of weeks with out event. A couple of days ago, I was playing through the amp at home when it suddenly blew a fuse. Not a big deal, but I had never blown a fuse in this amp (or any other Top Hat, for that matter), and the timing seemed odd, so of course I'm wondering if it had to do with the 5Y3.
So, is a 5Y3 a suitable rectifier for this model? Is it possible I just bought a bum tube?
