Gibson Les Paul w/ P90s

Tophat users seem really pleased with the tones they get using telecasters. I am in no doubt that the Tophat Tele combo is amazing, but I thought I would share another guitar that is flat out amazing with at least one Tophat (my Club Royale 2x12 combo).

I bought a 2005 R6 Gibson several years ago, and I couldn't be happier with the tones I have been getting. I have used this guitar with my CR2x12 in several bands, one an Americana/Roots gig, another a straightup rock gig, and a cover gig spanning four decades of music. In each case the R6/Club Royale combo has been stellar.

Really, this guitar is like a more muscular tele, although it doesn't have the 25.5 scale, bolt-on chime that you all must be getting. But, it has great punch and low to low mid grit that I really dig. For those of you who are looking to add to your tones (teleplayers, I am speaking to you directly :) ) you might want to consider one of these guitars with your Tophats. This is the best tone I have gotten in the past 25 years of playing.

I use a Les Paul Custom Classic with p-90s (h-90 by Gibson terms because of the second set of windings and push pull pots) and a telecaster and a Gretsch Anniversary model (TV Jones equipped) with my Supreme 16 and enjoy all three quite well. I haven't broken into the strat territory yet but hope to in the future.

I think TopHats are a good platform for a wide variety of sounds.
